Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life …

“Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life – think of it, dream of it, live on that idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is the way to success, that is way great spiritual giants are produced.” – Swami Vivekananda

The yoga sutras mention that meditation is a natural unfoldment from a state concentration, and and that the state of meditation provides other subtler, spontanious and deeper states of experience.

This quote for me, makes me think if you follow this advice, ones whole life becomes a meditation on one thing to be achieved. Obviously day to day needs are to be taken care of, but to have one focus in you’re life no matter what you’re age, must be an interesting way to live.

Of course the question is, what one thing could we set our selves upon? and is it even worth setting our lives up in this way? If we did set our focus, it would certainly help us through the tough times, it could be a rewarding endeavor if it works with the type of person you are.

Swami Satyananda attained Maha Samadhi

Swami Satyananda attained Maha Samadhi this morning, 5th Dec. Maha Samadhi is the final step in a yogi’s sadhana practice. Swami Satyanda founded the Bihar School of yoga and from this seed and the subsequent events, Mandala Yoga Ashram was founded. The Mandala yoga ashram is where I am studying to be a yoga teacher.

I have to say hearing this news does bring mix feelings and a level of contemplation. One point is that how much control is required to consciously die without the use of anything, this is an amazing concept. On another level, we all die at some point, but to be able to prepare and take control over the death of you’re own being, that’s amazing. And think about it, to be able to gain the state of Maha Samadhi in the face of knowing you are going to die. Meditation requires amongst other aspects relaxed, steady, calm and firm seated position. How do you get that relaxed and calm knowing what you will be leaving behind. I suppse this demonstrates a mastery over non-attachment as described in various traditions and yoga texts.

Om Shanti Shanti Shanti

Greetings,

“Keep the UK Sports Council Out Of Yoga”

The issue affects not only Yogis who are based in the UK, but your support will also go some way to help independent Yogis in Scotland and Ireland who have to deal with similar political challenges, and of course, (indirectly) visiting Yoga teachers from overseas who come here to teach and lead Yoga retreats etc.

Many agree with what this petition says, and I think that you might agree, too.

If you can spare a moment, please take a look, and consider signing yourself and passing it on – to give everyone an opportunity to consider it too.

Yoga Blog to Yoga Teacher Website

September 2009 I started a journey that when finished will see me changed into a qualified yoga teacher, all being well, it is my intention to succeed in this journey. “It is good to have an end to journey toward, but it is the journey that matters in the end.” (Ursula K. LeGuin), it’s a quote that often emerges into my mind at certain times, and this is naturally one of those times. Why do I say this, because I never started this journey with the goal of becoming a teacher, although by becoming a teacher it will be nice to be in a position to share yoga with others. The key driving reasons were for personal development, and to deepen my knowledge and understanding of yoga first and foremost for myself. As I say it was always good that I could share with others what has so profoundly enriched and changed my life numerous ways, namely yoga and what better position to start teaching yoga from than a more deep understanding of yoga and myself.

It is now time to evolve this blog site into a more professional and “yoga teacher” style website, but I shall still blog on this site, but the content will be organised differently, it will all still be there, but I might review and rework my posts and articles. I will write with yoga students in mind more than just friends and interested people.

So expect to see changes and fluctuations in this websites while the evolution progresses.

YTTC: 3rd Residentual Weekend

Last weekend I got back from the third residential weekend on the yoga teacher training course at Mandala Yoga Ashram. I would have blogged about the second residential weekend, but moving the weekend before and having to settle into the new place and area (Nantwich, Cheshire) meant I only just had time to complete the home work ready for the last weekend.

Everyone on the course is so nice, we all get one well, and it’s obvious people are settling into the course. Now we have completed a few micro teachings for pranayama I’m feeling more confident about teaching, and looking forward to the first asana micro teaching. The teaching is very good, and spending time at the ashram is always a positive experience.

This time I managed to fix a bench during karma yoga, and enjoyed the chanting (mantra) and Satsang session. The anatomy and physiology continues to be interesting, how could it not be, the human body is amazing. The most revealing aspect of this weekend, was the introduction to mudras. Mudras are fantastic, I never understood what affect they had, but as always with the ashrams teaching, the subject was very effectively presented.

Om Shanti Shanti
